What are Bakkie Tonneau Covers used for and how are they installed?

A Tonneau Cover provides protection against inclement such as rain, dust etc from entering the vehicles loadbin, some protection from a security perspective and reduces fuel consumption.  These covers are popular because they are in-expensive / cost-effective when compared to any other bakkie accessory. Our tonneau covers are made of a leather embossed material and canvas which stretches over the vehicles load bin area. There are two types of Tonneau Covers, the clip on cover and the elasticated rope tie on cover.

The Clip-on Cover, although slightly more expensive than the rope tie on cover, generally has a sleeker look and lies flat providing a neat finish. This cover does not lock yet provides are form of protection.

The advantage of this is that no drilling takes place on the side of the  sides of the bin but only when mounting the rail behind the cab window.  The clip system allows for easy to use and the support beams / brace mounted inside the load bin ensures does not collected on top of the Tonneau cover. Priced from R5150 00 for most double cabs where there is no rollbar on the vehicle. Prices do vary for different types of bakkies. Good value for money and lasts a lifetime, if used with care. Main feature is it’s good looks.

Rope Tie-On Bakkie Tonneau Covers

 This bakkie cover is installed by pop riveting little pegs on the sides of the vehicle’s loadbin area. The Tonneau cover is then placed over the back of the vehicle and fastened down by an elasticated rope onto the clips.

Two support beams/braces are mounted on the inside of the loadbin to allow for water drainage . This cover is not lockable either. Effectively this enables the water to just roll off the tonneau cover. Note: The cover is not lockable and priced from R5400 for most double cabs, although the  Rollbar on the vehicle is the dermin

Highly recommended frequent use of accessing and storing goods. Both covers are highly durable and are of superior quality material.

The Electric (E) Lid and the Manual (M) Lid is most popular for the newer models. Otherwise the Securilid 21is available for the older models.

Beekman Fibreglass Canopy

If you choose to go with a fibreglass canopy  there are various types to choose from. The most popular base canopies have side and rear windows and a half opening door, in the fibreglass range. Only produced in standard white.

The Sport Executive ranges come with a Curved Back Glass, sporty roof racks, no rubbers on the windows, third brake light, interior light, speaker box mountings and air vents. and oh yes, and it is waterproof. These are only available for the most double cabs, extended cabs, single cabs and half tonners.

The standard base canopies are produced without windows or just a rear  window, full door, hi-line, low line, space-savers /courier canopies and so on.

Want a Aluminium Canopy? It’s going to cost you a bit more than the fibreglass canopies. Considering the Canopy comes with gull-wing doors, solid doors that open upwards on the sides. Windows in these doors and an optional extra. Made in Automotive-grade aluminium,  it is worth considering. These Rhinoman Aluminium Canopies are completely waterproof and looks amazing on a vehicle.  Very professional finish. Comes is Black or White.  Price starts from a cool R34000 > on-wards.
