Is your Tonneau Cover 100% Waterproof?

The short answer? No.

When fitted properly, a tonneau cover keeps out most water—rain, splashes, and general road spray won’t be a problem. But calling it 100% waterproof wouldn’t be accurate.

No cover can seal off your load bin completely like a submarine hatch. Small amounts of water might get in during heavy storms or high-pressure washes. That said, our covers are built tough and designed to handle the elements—so you can count on them to keep your load dry under normal conditions.

What you should know about Tonneau Covers / Bakkie Covers / Tarpaulin Covers

Every bakkie cover we sell comes as a complete kit. This includes aluminium rails, pegs, tension rods, and all the parts needed for a proper fit. First, we install the aluminium tracks into your bakkie’s load bin. Then we fit the cover securely onto the rails.

However, it’s important to know that tonneau covers are not universal. One cover won’t fit every double cab. Likewise, covers from different manufacturers aren’t interchangeable. The aluminium rail systems vary from brand to brand.

In addition, roll bars (or sports bars) can complicate the fit. Not all roll bars are the same—dimensions and thicknesses differ. If your bakkie has a non-standard roll bar, we’ll need to measure it before we can make the right cover.

Rope Tie-On Elasticated Tonneau Covers

Rope tie-on bakkie covers are built the same way as our clip-on covers, but they attach differently. Instead of locking into rails, they hook onto the sides of the bakkie using elasticated rope—also known as bungee cord.

Like the clip-on versions, these covers are UV-protected, which means they last longer under the sun. They’re also weatherproof, keeping out most rain and dust. However, the fit is slightly looser compared to clip-on covers, due to the flexible rope system.

Each cover comes with an elasticated rope that hooks onto clips mounted along the sides of the bakkie. In some cases, bakkies come standard with these side hooks—so you won’t need to install anything extra. This makes fitting quick and easy.

Best of all, these rope tie-on tonneau covers are available for almost every make and model. So no matter what bakkie you drive, we likely have a cover that fits.

 

 

Are Tonneau Covers/Bakkie Covers lockable?

Tonneau covers are generally not lockable, but then then again there  are some manufacturers who do supply lockable covers. Whilst it is maybe what you are looking for, if safety is your main priority, then a tonneau cover may not meet your need.
