Looking to fit a Canopy onto your Bakkie?
Important Message!! Read below before making any decisions. It will be the deciding factor regarding the purchase of a Canopy and choosing Midrand Canopy Centre for the fitments of accessories for your vehicle.

There are many Canopy Centres’ popping up everywhere for the fitment of Bakkie accessories and the trick is that you need to be sure that these agents are accredited to undertake fitments. Not every canopy centre claiming to do fitments, are in fact legitimate. These Canopy Fitment Centres’ need to be approved by their suppliers.
Always ask for credentials to confirm. We make canopy fitments look so easy because we are connoisseurs in the trade.
It’s that simple. Experience counts. Sooner or later you will find someone trying to take you for a ride, trying to make the most out of you and selling you an inferior product. We often receive this question and will provide guidance as below.
Why is there such a big price difference between Canopy Centres, products and pricing?
You probably wondering that it is just a bakkie Canopy and should be more or less in the same price band. The devil is in the detail. Focusing on the finish and the quality is critical. Canopies range from inferior finish to superior.
It is understandable that you might have concerns about the quality and reliability of different canopy options. Let us help you find the right fit for your needs. Fibre Glass! So if all manufacturers are using the same product then the canopy prices should be more or less the same. Correct? But this is usually not the case.

The are several other items to consider such as the mix and preparation when building the canopy in order for the canopy not to crack for example, quality of the windows and the rubbers used, the bracketing systems, the locks and the warranties to name a few.
Here’s an example:
Importance of Canopy Warranties
Here are some examples.
Company “A” charges R5000 for a Ford Ranger Canopy. Company “B” Charges R10000 for a similar type of Canopy.
Canopy Centre “A”
Canopy Centre “A” builds a Canopy mould that does not quite fit the bakkie properly and does not provide any warranties. Since the Canopy is not correctly built to fit the bakkie, the Canopy will start to leak and/or crack. When you take the Canopy back to the Fitment Centre, you will be told there is nothing they can do, knowing fully well, that it is a manufacturing defect. The truth is, there is nothing that you can do if the canopy is not under warranty.
You will find out the hard way that Canopy Centre “A” is not an accredited Canopy Fitment Centre because their canopies are not guaranteed. You are now left with two options. Buy another canopy or just live with what you initially purchased. Either way, this will not end in a positive outcome.
Canopy Centre “B”
Canopy Centre “B” sells the same type of canopy for R10000 and happens to an accredited Canopy Fitment Centre. The canopy fits your vehicle perfectly. You obtain a 2-year warranty with your purchase. Eight months later your canopy starts leaking. You take the Canopy back. Your canopy gets repaired. You are still not satisfied. Then your canopy is replaced with a new one, under the warranty.
That is the difference. When you are making a purchase think about warranties and after-sales service. When you purchase a canopy, you should look for quality and reliability. You will likely end up paying more if you don’t buy right the first time, guaranteed!

If you are price-sensitive, go ahead and purchase the canopy for say R5000.00, you will end up with endless problems. If you want to buy value, you are best advised to go for Canopy Centre B’s product.
Whilst such incidences are rare, the impact is huge. You do get proper quality products at a discount if you look properly. Cheaper is not always better, and better is not always cheaper as the saying goes.
At Canopy Centre, we understand that you want your canopy to last for a long time. That’s why we have our own manufacturing plant with strict quality controls to ensure that our canopies are of the highest quality. Our canopies come equipped with durable accessories such as sliding windows, roof rails, and brake lights that can withstand frequent use. We also offer a separate guarantee for these accessories for a specific period of time, so you can have peace of mind in the full knowledge that you will receive the best quality and assurance.
All our Canopies for Sale come with a Warranty!
First of all… Who honestly offers Fibreglass canopies that would last a lifetime? You have got to be kidding me. Take a few steps back and think about this properly. What fibreglass product is going to last a lifetime? How is that even possible? It’s in daily use and over time the canopy will start to crack. It’s like your body, it’s not going to last a lifetime. you know the old saying…if it sounds too good to be true it normally is. Do some homework and find a canopy centre that has been around for a while, Find a fitment centre that has a strong backing and that has Quality Canopies for sale. Canopies that have been produced by a certain company over a long period have made their mistakes and are most likely to give you the quality that you are looking for.
Are all canopy fitments the same at all Canopy Centres?
No no no no NO! Yes, that was a capital NO. All canopies are fitted in a manner that is approved by each manufacturer. Let me paint you a picture that says a thousand words. Now, this is something that has happened and a practice that continues.
Ford Rangers tend to have softer load bins. Special brackets are built into the vehicle where canopies are “allowed to be fitted onto”. The Canopy Centre may only fit canopies onto these brackets as the weight of the canopy may crack/crumble the load bin area. Yes, that is correct! Your loadbin might get damaged because the fitment was not don’t properly.
If you have your canopy fitted at a canopy centre that is not an approved dealer and something like this happens, you will have no recourse. You immediately lose your manufacturer’s warranty. I have seen this happen more than once.
You will incur additional expenses in having your bin repaired. You must have your product installed by an approved fitment centre.
Something as simple as this can have dire consequences, in terms of your new vehicle being destroyed and insurance claims being refuted.
All canopies come with fitting instructions as per the manufacturer’s standards/ requirements when fitting the product. Leave it to the experts.
Horror Story
John Soap walked into my store the other day and had a story to tell. He was driving on the highway and his canopy flew off the vehicle. Scary scary stuff! He could have seriously injured himself and those around him, luckily he didn’t. He came in and asked if we could repair his canopy or if we had second-hand canopies for sale. We couldn’t help him as the canopy was too far gone and we do not sell second-hand canopies. He went to a cheap canopy centre and the fitment was not done correctly. If the fitment is not done correctly there is a good chance something could go wrong which in this case it did. Safety is a priority, especially with family. Make sure you get it done correctly the first time. A canopy flying around on the middle of a highway…wow!

But I just can’t afford it right now!
To be rather honest. I would recommend that you rather not have anything on your vehicle until you can afford a decent fitment. Rather save up some cash and buy something decent that would last you a while.
If you have a risk appetite, ignore my message and do whatever suits your pocket and do whatever makes you happy.
The company I purchased my Canopy from has closed down
Unfortunately, we see this happening more and more in our industry. Small Canopy fitment centres open up all over the place, sell their canopies for next to nothing and end up having to close their doors in less than a year or two. The problem with this is that once you have to replace a glass or canopy door it becomes rather difficult. Glass doors and certain accessories are usually made to fit a specific type of canopy and other canopy accessories will in all probability not fit onto your canopy. There is a strong possibility you will not be able to get those accessories, thus rendering your canopy worthless. Buy a canopy from a reputable dealer.
Choosing a canopy for a person’s specific needs varies from person to person. One needs to think about their budget and current financial circumstances. Make your decision based on the information you have received from the homework you have done.
