Manual Bed Cover Ford Wildtrak – Securilid M

This Manual Lid referred to as the Securilid M, is an innovation from the Securilid 218, and operates in exactly the same way and will in time replace all other Lids that have been produced.

This Securi-Lid M brings a host of advantages over its predecessor, including an improved fitment methodology and enhanced unit rigidity. Currently available for the latest model double cabs and certain vehicle types only.

What’s makes the Ford Wildtrak Securi lid 218 different to a 216?

The moulded handle on the the Securi lid 218 together with the mid-stop position makes the 218 different to the 216 Lid. It not only provides a more comfortable grip when opening the lid, but retracts to multiple stopping positions, giving you the option of part-use of your load space when needed. Accessing your goods through the tailgate without opening the Lid itself, is such a win, thereby negating the need for more elbow grease. The 216 has none of these features and is being phased out.

What is the Ford Wildtrak Bed Cover all about?

This cover provides the ultimate form of security for your bakkie whilst stationary and in motion. Commonly known as Armadillo but better known as Securi lid Lockable Bakkie Bed Covers, it is the most safest lockable cover you can purchase. The Securi-lid is basically made up of aluminium slats forming a roller load body cover which is mounted on the top of the load bin of the vehicle. The cover is manually operated with a strong spring system that allows the lid to be easily retracted into the shutter bin located just behind the vehicle’s cab area. It takes up a relatively small space of the bin area (approx. 30cm).

How does the Bed Cover Securi lid 218 work?

This load body cover/ aluminium roller shutter system works similarly to that of a garage roller shutter door. It is based on the same principle, remains locked when not in use and rolls opened when you need to access the load bin.

The rope pulley system allows you to pull the lid back towards you with relative ease, clicking it back into position, when closed. It is as simple as that!

Is the Lockable Bakkie Bed Cover completely waterproof?

The answer is simply no. No lid is 100% waterproof, although 99% of the time they are. These Roller Shutter Doors have an advanced water drainage system that is built into the unit, which allows for proper drainage but in cases of torrential storms and flooding, you could experience some leaks. This in-built drainage system has to be cleaned frequently to allow for proper drainage. All the more reason as to why your lid has to be serviced.

Be vigilant and exercise caution when washing the Lid. Water could enter through the tailgate where water would have naturally entered anyway. It’s important to take note of this as it could easily be mistaken for leaks coming through the slats of the Roll Top Cover.

Does your Ford Wildtrak have a Rollbar/Sportsbar ?

If it does, well and good. You will still retain your existing roll bar, so don’t stress. Roll Bar conversions are done by tailoring/modifying the rollbar/sportsbar which is then remounted onto the lid with special brackets. It does not matter whether is it stainless steel or mild steel powder coated, the process is the same.

The conversion will cost you a little extra but it is worth every penny!

Does it matter where you fit your Wildtrak Bed Cover?

Yes, it does. You need to find an approved fitment centre if you want a trouble-free fitment. Bakkie roller bed covers need to be properly installed the first time and that’s the key.

Refrain from using unaccredited fitment centres or you will experience never-ending issues with your lid. To retain your sanity, consider fitting a Roller Shutter Lid only at an approved fitment centre. Make sure that you service your lid at least once annually.

Do you need to service your Ford Wildtrak Bed Cover?

Yes you do, at least once annually. It is just as important as your vehicle, to make sure the drainage pipes are clear and work during the rainy season and that the roller cover is operating smoothly. What are Bakkie Tonneau Covers used for and how are they installed?

A Tonneau Cover provides protection against inclement such as rain, dust etc from entering the vehicles loadbin, some protection from a security perspective and reduces fuel consumption. These covers are popular because they are in-expensive / cost-effective when compared to any other bakkie accessory. Our tonneau covers are made of a leather embossed material and canvas which stretches over the vehicles load bin area. There are two types of Tonneau Covers, the clip on cover and the elasticated rope tie on cover.

Tonneau Covers for Bakkies – Clip On

CLIP ON COVER

The Clip-on Cover, although slightly more expensive than the rope tie on cover, generally has a sleeker look and lies flat providing a neat finish. This cover does not lock yet provides are form of protection.

The advantage of this is that no drilling takes place on the side of the sides of the bin but only when mounting the rail behind the cab window. The clip system allows for easy to use and the support beams / brace mounted inside the load bin ensures does not collected on top of the Tonneau cover. Priced from R5150 00 for most double cabs where there is no rollbar on the vehicle. Prices do vary for different types of bakkies. Good value for money and lasts a lifetime, if used with care. Main feature is it’s good looks.

Rope Tie-On Bakkie Tonneau Covers

This bakkie cover is installed by pop riveting little pegs on the sides of the vehicle’s loadbin area. The Tonneau cover is then placed over the back of the vehicle and fastened down by an elasticated rope onto the clips.

ROPE TIE-ON COVER

Two support beams/braces are mounted on the inside of the loadbin to allow for water drainage . This cover is not lockable either. Effectively this enables the water to just roll off the tonneau cover. Note: The cover is not lockable and priced from R5400 for most double cabs, although the Rollbar on the vehicle is the dermin

Highly recommended frequent use of accessing and storing goods. Both covers are highly durable and are of superior quality material.
